About the Piece “EVERYTHING STARTS FROM A DOT.”–Wassily Kandinsky
Welcome to the 2022 Damn Fine Print calendar, a risograph printed expression of colour and shape that explores the constantly changing energy of a single year across 12 unique pages.
Designed for print lovers and creatives, it’ll take you on a journey across 12 months, exploring the relationship between the present moment and what lies ahead. It assigns key shapes and palettes to each month and shows the interpolation of these dates as constantly shifting shapes and colours.
Enjoy it as a showcase of how the Risograph printing process plays with textures and inks, and use it as a source of inspiration for your creative work through the days and months ahead.
About Damn Fine Press Damn Fine Press is the publishing arm of Damn Fine Print, which has aimed to showcase printmaking and publication in tandem through the use of our risograph printer. Through Damn Fine Press we hope to bring to life the creations of ourselves and other artists and capture the imagination of those new to, and already interested in, printmaking and self-publishing alike. Our risograph printed calendar has become an annual tradition for us in the studio, whether through artist collaborations or by showcasing our own printmaking experiments that we've been able to conduct on the risograph, as we learn more and more about its limitations and possibilities.

This print was part of Folklore, a risograph exhibition celebrating the worlds of skate, graffiti, music and tattoo. Curated by Magnus Mudrack and Damn Fine Print.
This is the letter R composed of fragmented overlapping shapes. Originally a digital drawing, it was later adapted to the Riso process of separating colours as separate files. Areas where the layers overlap were reconsidered to form part of the overall design. The piece is inspired by the improvised and independent approach to letter forms by graffiti artists. The R forms the last letter of what I wrote as a graffiti artist.
This print was made as part of our 2017 exhibition Culture: A Visual Snapshot of Now. We asked artists from all over the world to lay down where we're at in 2017.
''I was thinking about where we look to for goals and inspiration in this day and age and how we are sold lifestyles and ideas of success through advertising in magazines and online. I started to cut out random words and phrases from ads and interviews and piece them together to offer alternative snippets of advice. The results varied from profound to ridiculous. It was interesting how thought-provoking it was to recycle words originating from a commercial premise and somehow generate an emotional response from them.''
