Deirdre Breen

Deirdre Breen is a multidisciplinary designer and visual artist.

Her practice explores the boundary between art and design, and compositional principles common to both. She investigates form, colour theory and geometry, and manipulates them to create a series of abstracted, playful structures and expressions of relational elements.

Her artworks comprise screenprints, textiles and site-specific mural installations. She has a strong interest in collaborative practice and has worked with local artists, curators, designers and community groups on site-specific projects.

Solo exhibitions include SUPERSTRUCT , Damn Fine Print, Dublin and Assembly , Cork Printmakers, Cork. Her work has been acquired by The Office of Public Works, Ireland, the Glucksman, UCC, Cork, and a number of private collections. Deirdre now lives and works in Cork City, Ireland.

Breen is currently undertaking an MA in Art & Process in CCAD. Her current research raises questions about our place as embodied humans in the world and the ways we produce, reproduce and consume our material environment. The work interrogates a hierarchy of materials, looking at what is disposable and what is venerated, questioning the value of the ordinary and the everyday.
